RENOVATIONS: HAMPTON HOUSE, NILE STREET,
NELSON. HERETAGE HOME RESTORATION AND MODERNISATION.
The House consists of a turn of the
20th century Victorian Villa built with insitu concrete walls, (very unusual in a town
where most houses were built of timber) and extending to the south, some narrow extensions
built of timber.
This view shows the back porch of the Villa and the start of the timber
extensions.
Completed renovations; the rear porch
was completely rebuilt as were all the out buildings extending to the south, in a similar
style and using sympathetic materials but utilising modern construction techniques and
features.
Looking east towards the old kitchen
and laundry
equivilent view; new kitchen in same
location as before, and new family lounge / dining next to it with veranda.
View from south with old shed at left,
Villa centre and old out buildings at right. The shed was re built at the rear of the
property, from some salvaged parts like doors and windows, it was turned through 90
degrees to face north and shelter the courtyard from southerly winds.
View from south showing extents of
additions that replaced old outbuildings. A guest bedroom resides at right, terminating
the additions.
