Pozie Eco-cabin

The Pozie cabin was the prototype 10m2 cabin that we built entirely from pallets and other waste materials in 2011 and displayed at Ecofest in Nelson. This is where we did all our experimentation and made all our mistakes, the result was not too bad, check it out! Click here to view the page.

Wallace 'Nikau Nook'; Okiwi Bay 2013

Ian and Annie contacted me last year for Ian to attend my one day workshop in Nelson, learning to build with pallets and other recycled waste materials. After subsequently buying my book “Building with Pallets” they set about collecting materials for a beach cabin at Okiwi Bay in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, top of the South Island, New Zealand.

Gap Filler Office Project

The 'Gap Filler' office building project in Christchurch was organised by SHAC earlier this year. Two walls were made from pre-fab pallet panels made by Solabode Ltd in Nelson and trucked down to Christchurch. Solabode also supplied technical advice and construction details.

RAEH Project (Retrofit Affordable Eco Habitat)

A partly finished 15m2 Wwoofer accommodation unit at an undisclosed location, this solution uses valuable subfloor space under a pole home to provide a safe, comfortable and cheap solution for those needing additional room. All floor and wall panels were prefabricated using pine pallets, left over wool insulation and carpet uplifts for lining with a clay slip paint finish. Some Aqualine Gib board was also used for as lining in wet areas. Updates as progress evolves. All up projected cost including labour for prefab panels; approx. $5,000.

Pallet Wall Greenhouse

This new greenhouse (still in need of fully closing in) has a south wall (and return support walls) made of pallet assemblies. Each assembly is made from one and a half 4x stringer pallets with recycled polystyrene packaging for insulation and new polythene sheeting as an external cladding. The pallet interior is yet to have offcuts of Aircell foil backed bubble wrap fixed, as a light reflecting / waterproofing lining.

The rest of the materials are new and plastic covering was reused from my original greenhouse being UV resistant 'Solarweave' greenhouse plastic.
The whole building including prefab pallet assemblies took 1 person about 5 half days to build.
